How Denver Hypnosis to Stop Smoking and Lose Weight Really Works – FAQ

With so many myths surrounding hypnotherapy and hypnosis to stop smoking, we have put up a Hypnosis FAQ to dispel many exaggerated and incorrect assumptions about what hypnosis is and isn’t.

Following is a Hypnosis to Stop Smoking FAQ and the answers concerning hypnotism and hypnotherapy:

1. WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is actually a mental state that we experience all the time. Whether you realize or not, you go in and out of hypnosis several times a day. If you’ve ever watched a great movie, and not realized how much time has passed, that’s an example of hypnosis.

You are never asleep with hypnosis. Hypnosis is merely consciously using that natural state for personal change.

2. WHO CAN BE HYPNOTIZED?

Anyone who has an IQ above 40, is able to follow clear, simple instructions, and who is willing to be hypnotized.

3. IS HYPNOSIS DANGEROUS?

There has never been a documented case of harm coming to anyone from the therapeutic use of hypnotism.

4. WHAT DOES HYPNOSIS FEEL LIKE?

Even people who have gone to a hypnotherapist before have been disappointed. Why? Probably because the hypnotherapist explained little or nothing about what to expect. And then those people don’t think they were hypnotized because what happened didn’t meet what they expected to happen.

Many people think they will experience some strange, unusual state that they have never experienced before. They think they will be “out of it”, or “under” like some anthesia.

DO NOT EXPECT TO GO TO SLEEP OR LOSE TOUCH WITH REALITY. You will be able to hear, remember, and experience everything that is going on around you.

All hypnosis is a state of physical relaxation, and heightened mental attention.

You’ll find that you’re perfectly mentally alert, able to resist any suggestion if you want, and fully in control of everything you say, do, and think.

Unfortunately, most hypnotherapists do almost no patient education, and so clients go away not thinking they were hypnotized, when in actuality, they probably were.

5. HOW EXACTLY DOES HYPNOSIS WORK?

Hypnosis works like this: the reason it’s so hard to change anything with willpower, is because willpower is a product of our conscious minds.

But our conscious minds aren’t what is in control of our behavior; it’s our subconscious mind that is in control.

So hypnosis takes those things you consciously know, that cigarettes are poison, that they’re bad for you, etc. and it reinforces it to where your behavior comes from, the subconscious.

That’s why a person can know how terrible cigarettes are for their health, be suffering from terrible health problems and still not stop!

Because anything that doesn’t address the source of behavior, the subconscious – will ultimately fail long-term.

6. CAN A PERSON BE HYPNOTIZED AGAINST THEIR WILL OR MADE TO DO ANYTHING AGAINST THEIR WILL?

You simply can not be hypnotized against your will. If that were the case, hypnosis would be the most closely guarded secret on the planet.

All hypnosis is consent-based. The hypnotherapist gives the client suggestions, who in turn gives those to himself.

7. DO PEOPLE EVER HAVE TROUBLE COMING OUT OF HYPNOSIS?

You cannot get “stuck” in hypnosis. But some people may enjoy the pleasant state so much, they may choose to stay there a few seconds longer than the hypnotist directs them.

The reason being, it is such a pleasant state, they perhaps just want to experience it a little longer. If the hypnotherapist were to leave the room, the person would gradually just fall asleep naturally.

You always set your own limits while in hypnosis, and can always choose when to come out of hypnosis to stop smoking. There has never been a documented case of someone being unable to come out of hypnosis.

8. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE SUB-CONSCIOUS MIND?

The conscious mind is the part your mind that is responsible for how you feel yourself going through the world.

The subconscious mind is the one that directs your behavior through the beliefs and habits that your environment influenced upon you, before you were old enough to dismiss outside ideas and beliefs about the world around you.

9. WHY DO SOME PEOPLE HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is such a misunderstood phenomenon. For many years it has been misinterpreted based on unrealistic movies and exaggerated claims made by the media.

10. DOES HYPNOSIS WEAKEN THE WILL? ARE ONLY WEAK MINDED PEOPLE ABLE TO GO INTO HYPNOTIC STATES?

No. Self-hypnosis strengthens the will. Hypnosis works with the will, not against it. In fact, the more intelligent and strong-willed you are, the more effective hypnosis will be for you.

11. WHAT IF I CAN’T BE HYPNOTIZED?

Most people feel or think this very same way. The fear is giving up control. The opposite is actually true. You are exercising a more powerful form of thought-control than at other times by accepting the suggestions given. The only thought to prevent you from going into hypnosis is the thought, “I can’t be hypnotized.”

12. DO I NEED HYPNOTHERAPY? WILL IT WORK FOR ME?

Hypnosis is an alternative to other methods of smoking cessation.

The reason often that “conscious-mind” treatment for smoking cessation like the “patch” or Chantix, or the gum, or even talk therapy rarely works, is because they never address the psychological habits surrounding cigarette smoking.
